As a kid I was not allowed to eat any sugar. My parents had healthy eating habits and loved to workout. I think their thought was twofold. First they wanted us to have good healthy eating habits. And second it is easier to eat healthy when sugary snacks are not in the house. The problem with that is that when I got old enough to go to school I traded friends for sugary snacks. When we would go to friend’s houses especially our neighbor across the street we would fill up with fruit punch and all the cookies we could eat. There house was our favorite place to go.
My struggle with sugar continues to today. Now that I am a mom I vowed to raise our daughter differently. I want her to have healthy eating habits. I think part of that means learning to have balance and to not eat something just because it is there. One of the things we try to do is make healthier treats (mixed in with sugary ones too). Chocolate bark is one of my favorite things to make. It is a no bake dessert with so many option with designs, colors and toppings. When our daughter was young I made yogurt dots (please excuse my photography, boy have things changed). She loved them.
When the opportunity to work with Scotch-Brite® came up I thought it was the perfect time to make yogurt bark. Baking with a child can get a little (I mean very) messy. Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots features Subbing Dots technology, so they rinse clean. I love how fast they can clean up in the kitchen. Just like chocolate bark the options are endless. When we went to Walmart I let our daughter pick out the flavors, she picked vanilla and strawberry. I made it while she was at camp. I wish I had filmed her reaction when I opened the freezer. It was so adorable. They were a hit. We cannot wait to make them again. We are already planning one with some toppings.
