Healthy No Bake Apple Donuts are a yummy no bake treat for kids. It’s hard to believe these Apple donuts are made using apple slices. A Yummy, healthy kid snack or treat with less sugar than regular donuts!
Every Friday Kurt’s office has donuts and bagels and he brings one home for B every weekend. It is a fun way to kick off the weekend, but not the healthiest way.
No Bake Apple Donuts
Since B and I love to cook and bake together especially no bake treats for kids I wanted to come up with a healthier version of B’s favorite donuts so she could enjoy them all week. These Healthy No Bake Apple Donuts are delicious and easy to make.
Tips for Making These No Bake Apple Donuts
The first time I made them for B for a school lunch the container came home empty, which is always a good sign.
When you cut the apple put the apple on its side and start slicing at the top. I ended up not using the very top and bottom slices, but you can use them if you or your kids like extra skin on their apples.
You can skip the step with the lemon water if you are eating the apple donuts same day or if your family is ok with the apples browning a little. Since Envy™ apples have naturally higher citric acid content they are very slow to brown. The higher citric acid prevents the ‘browning’ enzyme from activating. We love the lemon flavor so one time when I made them I squeezed the lemon straight onto the apple slices. I think this only works
When using cream cheese, it is best to put it out on the counter for a couple of minutes so that it is soft enough to easily spread on the apple slices.
Let your kids be a part of the toppings. For this round, we used mini chocolate chips and our favorite sprinkles that we used for our unicorn party last week.
Ingredients for No Bake Apple Donuts
I love recipes that only have a couple of ingredients. For this recipe ,you need: Envy™ apples
Spreads – cream cheese or nut butters work best. Strawberry cream cheese is our favorite. Lemon to slow down browning of the apples even longer. Toppings like mini chocolate chips, granola and sprinkles.
No Bake Apple Donuts
- 3 apples cut into 1/2″ thick slices
- 2 cups wαter + juice of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup creamy peαnut butter
- 1/4 cup strawberry cream cheese
- rαinbow sprinkles
- mini chocolαte chips
- Slice the apples into ½” thick slices. Use a mini cookie cutter to create a smαllcircles out in the middle of eαch αpple slice, to create the donuts.
- Place the αpple rings into the wαter αnd lemon juice mixture for about 5-10minutes. Pαt dry completely.
- Add peanut butter or strawberry flavored cream cheese.
- Add the toppings of choice and enjoy.
