Cuisine: Dessert, Kid Approved
Servings: 1 loaf

Ingredients

  • 3 overly ripe bananas peeled and sliced
  • cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • dash Salt
  • ¾ cup Sugar can add more or less depending on how sweet you want it
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1-½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • Red Food Coloring
  • heart cookie cutter

Instructions

  • Heart Center: 1 Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch pan.
  • 2 In a mixing bowl, slice the ripe bananas. Mash with a fork until completely smooth. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas.
  • 3 Mix in the baking soda and salt. Add in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Slowly add in the flour and mix it. When it is all mixed together add in the red food coloring to the color you would like.
  • 4 Pour the batter into your greased pan. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes at 350°F (175°C), or until a fork inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • 5 Remove from oven and cool completely on a rack. Remove the banana bread from the pan. Use a heart shaped cookie cutter.

Regular Banana Bread

  • 1 Leave the oven on at 350°F and grease a loaf pan.
  • 4 Pour some of the batter into your greased pan, evenly on the bottom. Layer in the heart shapes side by side so they make a solid heart in the middle. Slowly add the rest of the batter next to the hearts and on top. I would recommend using a pipping bag to do this, if you don't have one you can use a plastic bag and cut a hole in it. Bake for 40 minutes to 1 hour at 350°F (175°C), or until a fork inserted into the center comes out clean. (If you are not doing the heart center cook time with be closer to 50 minutes to an hour)
  • 5 Remove from oven and cool completely on a rack. To slice I used floss (unscented of course). It was my first time trying and it works really well. You can use a butter knife as well.
