When I first started blogging my husband took all my photos. More than one night I remember stressing out that he was running late and we would miss our time for good natural light. It was stressful for both of us. Since he was a former Director of Photography I thought I would never be able to take photos like he does. Out of necessity and with his encouragement I started to take photos my own. I was doing it, but was not confident.
Then a blogger I admire offered to help me learn how to take better food photos. So one day I made Easy Peppermint Bark and took it over to her house to learn her process. She shot all her photos in her laundry because that is where is best natural light was. She helped me understanding how the camera worked, how to style the photo and most important how to edit photos. This recipe has been pinned thousands of times. Photos really make a big difference especially in blogging and social shares.

Spending just a couple of hours with my friend transformed my food photography and boosted my confidence, I would love to take another photography class focused on travel photography. And then take a photo adventure trip to Iceland so I could test out my new skills.

Travel Photography Bucket List
My new travel photography skills would not go to waste. Travel has been my passion since I was a little kid. My parents had a great goal of showing us that you do not have to take the traditional path to be happy in life. They took us all over the country and to Europe to see how there are many different ways to make money and enjoy life. One of my favorite trips from our childhood was to Colorado to spend time with a Bear Biologist. Ironic that after all this my brother became a doctor and I went on to get a MBA and work for a marketing agency before blogging. What it did do was ignite a love of travel for both of us.
In college I took the trip of a lifetime. It was a cruise around the world for college credit with Semester at Sea. The program integrates multiple-country study, interdisciplinary coursework, and hands-on field experience. For 100 days we cruised from Vancouver to Miami. A semester later I studied abroad in Oxford, England. I could not get enough of traveling.
When my husband and I first met he was the Director of Photography and traveled constantly to Mexico and the Caribbean. During his 2 years there he went to over 25 countries and stayed at some of the best resorts in the world.
When we first met we traveled together at least once a month sometimes more often. We have taken some amazing trips. My favorite one was to South Africa. We did a week in Capetown, a few days in a beach side town and a week at a safari camp. It was truly another trip of a lifetime.
For now I will sit by the pool by a Diet Coke and reflex on some of the amazing trips we have taken.
