Did you know that according to the new study by the National Diaper Bank Network and founding sponsor Huggies, Diaper Need and Its Impact on U.S. Families, 1 in 3 American families report experiencing diaper need?
Diaper need is a subject near and dear to my heart. 3 years ago I was the chair for our local diaper bank. It was an eye opening experience. I learned so much. Including that most childcare centers, even free and subsidized facilities require parents to provide a day’s worth of disposable diapers. Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, toddlers about 6. Disposable diapers cost $18 a week per baby. Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps. Many parents cannot go to work or school if they can’t leave their babies at child care.
Babies who remain too long in a soiled diaper are exposed to potential health risks. Without transportation some families are forced to buy diapers at local convenience stores rather than a large “big box” stores; which can significantly increase the monthly cost of diapers.
The numbers are staggering, but you can help.
How You Can Help with Huddle Up
Huggies and the Miami Dolphins have teamed up for “Huddle Up” for Miami’s Biggest Diaper Drive benefiting the Happy Baby Diaper Pantry of S.E. Florida (National Diaper Bank Network!)
- You can donate diapers through the Huggies No Baby Unhugged Amazon registry to send diapers to Happy Baby Diaper Pantry of S.E. Florida.
- You can simply donate your Huggies Rewards points to benefit the National Diaper Bank Network.
- Dolphin Fans, you are invited to “Huddle Up” with Huggies and the Miami Dolphins, on Sunday, October 22nd. Simply pick up a pack of diapers from Publix, bring them to the East Plaza at Hard Rock Stadium between 10AM-1PM to help local families in need.
We went to our local Publix and let B pick out any diapers she wanted to take with us to the game on October 22nd. We cannot wait to drop them off during the Huddle Up event at the stadium.
