Looking for the perfect place for a family trip to rest and recharge with your family. Sharing family things to do in Blue Ridge, GA. From apple picking, adventures in National Forests, apple picking, and reading in hammocks to s'mores by the campfire.
Thank you to Mountain Crest Cottage for hosting us. As always opinions are 100% my own.
For fall break we took a family trip to Georgia that included Great Wolf Lodge, Atlanta, and Blue Ridge. It was exactly the trip our family needed.
Where to Stay
We stayed at Mountain Crest Cottage and cannot recommend it enough!!!! It is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom updated spacious yet cozy cottage located in the North Georgia Mountains. We had originally planned lots of activities in N Georgia, but when we arrived we canceled almost all our plans so we could spend more time enjoying the home. Including the stunning, panoramic mountain views from the screened-in porch, quality time in the hot tub, reading in the rocking chairs, making s'mores, and relaxing in the hammock.
The home would be ideal for a large family or two families since both floors have two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a family room. We all loved the decor. The home is so welcoming with a big fireplace and an open kitchen all overlooking gorgeous trees. You feel like you are a world away up in the mountains, but really you are just 5 minutes from town.
The hosts thought of everything with the cottage. The home is perfectly appointed with everything you need to make a fun family vacation including:
- Coffee and tea with the cutest mugs.
- And all your toiletries including face masks that B and I enjoyed together.
- All the supplies for cooking and grilling including a green egg.
We loved having a nightly BBQ on the back patio. It is the perfect location to rejuvenate. We cannot wait to come back. Now B wants to buy a home in N Georgia.
Atlanta to Blue Ridge
If you are coming from out of state the easiest way to get to Blue Ridge is to fly into Atlanta airport. This may have you asking How far is Blue Ridge GA from Atlanta? It is about 100 miles so it takes 1-½ to 2 plus hours to drive from the airport. When we drove we drove through
Pumpkin Patch in Blue Ridge GA
If you are traveling from Atlanta in the fall I recommend a stop at Burt’s Pumpkin Patch. They have tons of pumpkins of more varieties than I have ever seen including huge pumpkins that take at least two people to pick up. It is probably one of the most popular patches in the state.
Amicalola Falls
If you go to Burt's pumpkin patch Amicalola Falls, one of the biggest waterfalls east of the Mississippi is less than a mile away. If you want to explore the waterfall without taking lots of steps you can If you drive past the gate and then make a left that starts climbing the hill, keep driving until you see a small parking lot to your right. This will keep you from having to climb hundreds of stairs. The walk from this midway-up parking lot is flat, short, and easy and takes you to the middle part of the waterfall. You can then either 1. Take the steps up to the top (still a lot) or 2. Walk back and get in your car and drive up to the top.
Apple Picking
There are tons of places to go apple picking. We went to Mercier Orchards, which is the largest and oldest orchard in the Southeastern U.S that is still in operation and because we went there on our last trip to N Georgia. Make sure you check their website for times before you go and to make sure they have apples to pick. When you arrive you buy a bag to fill with apples. Then you take a tractor ride to the apples. They have tons of different varieties. And the views are so beautiful.
Mercier Orchard Menu
When you go make sure you stop by the Mercier store too. When we were there the cafe was closed due to staffing shortages. Some of their most famous menu items include Pecan Chicken Salad, Pimento Cheese, or Loaded Potato salad. You can get all of them in the market.
The bakery also has fried pie, apple cider doughnuts, as well as lots of other desserts. You may also want to pick up some of their Hard Cider.
here are some of the plans we ended up canceling
- Ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.
- Hike on the Appalachian Trail.
- Go gem mining or geocaching for treasures.
- Go tubing or rafting. National Forests, lakes, and rivers that surround
