We just returned from an nontraditional Thanksgiving vacation in Orlando that included Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. We went to a different theme park each day during the long weekend. B said it was the best thanksgiving ever. I have to agree with her! I love spending quality time as a family with no other obligations. It was a great time to test out my new phone, Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Our 5 year old calls my phone my camera, as a blogger it is true I use my phone as a camera all day long. So many of my favorite features of this phone are all about the cameras that include two 12-megpixel cameras with different focal length lenses, so you can do wide angle and close up photos. The low light dual pixel camera, allows you to keep capturing memories even when it is dark. The dual camera with live focus. The Note 8’s camera also lets you mimic the blurred background that you can get with a larger, DSLR camera. And videos in 4K.
We spent a lot of time in the car over Thanksgiving, the stickers and pen were so much fun to play with. It kept us entertained in traffic.
My husband is the master at Black Friday deals. He has a great system setup to track the deals to make sure he is getting the best price. Thanks to him we are already 90% done with our Christmas shopping. We both LOVE Target so I was especially excited about the current promotion on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I got a new phone as an early gift and we both got $300 to spend at Target on gifts for our family.

I love the idea of creating personalized gifts especially during the holidays. Since we have so many fun photos from our trip I thought it was the perfect time to experiment with the best way to create photo luminaries. I have seen a couple of different methods so picked the three most popular and tried them. My favorite method is using velum paper. I used Our Best Bites, Flowing Photo Luminaries as my guide and added in more details based on my experiments.
What you Need to Create DIY Photo Gifts: Photo Candle Holders
- Velum paper - This is see through paper. You can get it at a craft store or online.
- Printer
- Double sided tape
- Scissors or cutter
- Jar containers - recommend using square or round containers with no text on them. It is has a tapered edge do not wrap that section.
- Tea light or candles
Optional:
- Washi Tape - to cover the seams
Pro Tip: You could also use Mod Podge to make it more permanent. I like the idea of switching out the photos often so we used double sided tape.
