If you follow my blog or on Instagram you know that we celebrated B's 5th Birthday with a trip to her favorite theme park. While I was originally a little sad to not have a birthday party to plan that sadness left as soon as we got there. It was the most amazing week. The only bad thing about going to the parks for a week straight is just how painful your feet get from all those steps. We were taking 15-20K steps a day. Now that we are annual pass holder and go on a regular bases I wanted to share our tips to not only surviving, but really enjoying a trip to a theme park.
- Know Your Family - You know yourself and your kids best. Do you guys do best in the morning or late afternoon? Do your kids still need naps or quiet time? We are a late night family so we don't rush off to the parks. If your family is up early take advantage it and get to the parks when they open. And then head straight to the back of the park to take advantage of the shorter lines.
- Have a Plan and Be Flexible - My second tip to survive and enjoy a theme park with kids is: don't try to do it all. Instead find out each persons must do is. Our daughter loves roller coasters so we know we need to plan to do at least one each day. If you are going to a park that allows you to pre-book times like fast passes, maximize them. Focus on the fun rides you got to do and not the ones you may have missed.
- Be Prepared - Being prepared starts with packing. You can read and print my complete packing list here. I need to add one more thing to our packing list, Dr. Scholl’s® Custom Fit® Orthotic Inserts. I have gone through phases in life when I use them daily, then I get a new pair of running shoes and stop wearing them. By day 2 of our trip I could barely walk. Dr. Scholl’s® Custom Fit® Orthotics provide immediate and all day relief for your foot, knee, or lower back pain from being on your feet. Let Dr. Scholl’s® Custom Fit® Orthotics help you stay on your feet, comfortably! See all the details on how to get fitted for them below. Now, you can get through long days at the park without lower body pain, because Dr. Scholl’s® Custom Fit® Orthotics are an effective solution for foot, knee and lower back pain.
- Change of Clothes, Bathing Suit and PJs- Check to see if the park has any water features. Forgetting a bathing suit could end up in a big meltdown. We also always bring pjs with us to the park so that if B get tired we can get her ready for bed. After a full day at the parks it is amazing how kids can fall asleep in their stroller even with all the noise.
- Stroller and Fan - Even if your kids don't generally use a stroller they may want to take advantage of it at the park. If not you have a great place to store your bags so you don't have to carry them around all day. Most of the theme parks we go to are in Florida where it is hot year round (with the exception of a couple of days). A simple stroller fan or hand held fan can save everyone from over heating, ice cream can help too!
