Adventures in Baking Cupcakes with a Toddler

Bailey and I went to Publix and she was fixated on buying cupcakes.  In an attempt to avoid a total meltdown in the middle of the grocery store I offered to purchase the supplies to bake some cupcakes at home.  We had so much fun.  Cannot wait to do it again.

I loved watching how she  serious she was about putting the cupcake wrappers in the pan.  Great opportunity to practice our hand eye coordination.
Like many toddlers Bailey wanted to do everything herself.  Including getting all supplies together.

It is the little things that make me so happy love her technique holding the bowl with her left hand.

Tasting the batter was one of Bailey's favorite part.

In attempt to allow her to do as much of the baking on her own.  This seemed like a good idea in my head.  I thought if I got her a ladle we would be ok.  I was wrong.

Take 2 after cleaning out the pan we tried a different method.  Mommy hold the ladle and Bailey assist.  This worked so much better.

Bailey was so excited she wanted to watch them cook.

Orange is Bailey's favorite color.  She was over the moon when we saw it as an option for the icing.

We have another box of cake mix.  Cannot wait for our next adventure in baking.

Looks like you have a chef in the making?

I think you are right which is ironic because my cooking skills are extremely limited.

Adorable! I love cooking with my daughter, too. Though it takes so much patience to not just take the spoon and do it myself! ? -Holly @paperplaneboutique

So true. I have to hold my breath and remind myself it is not just about making the food. It is the process.

You are brave for letting her do so much of it! She looks so into it 🙂 I have trouble letting go of the really messy parts, but try to let the kids help in some way when I'm cooking.

I struggle so much with letting her do it herself. She loves to cook and bake. I treated it like it was an arts and crafts project instead of cooking. Thank you so much for your comment.

That's a good way to approach it!
