Like many parents across the country our school closed with little notice in response to COVID-19. Since I know kids thrive on schedules I am sharing our sample homeschool schedule that we will use for our homeschool daily schedule. In full disclosure we are not teachers just parents who are doing the best we can to keep some sort of normality in these crazy times.
It is day 2 of this homeschooling schedule so I am sure it will change, but I wanted to get it down to share with everyone because so far it is working really well for us. I personally don't love having a rigid schedule, but I know my daughter and she thrives on a schedule. She also thrives on being part of the process. So, before we finalized the schedule we talked it through as a family.
Before I share the actual schedule I wanted to share tips for making it work.
Tips for Making a Homeschool Schedule Work
- Grace - Give yourself and your family grace. We are in unprecedented times and we are all doing the best with can.
- Flexibility - Just because you have a schedule it does not mean that you stick to it exactly. Use this as a guideline for the day.
- Times - I have seen lots of schedules and most have times. For me the timed scheduled stresses me out. So we did our schedule without any times. Does it really matter if we start the day at 8am or 9am. For me it does not. But, if the times make you feel better add them.
- Embrace the positives - While this can feel like the craziest time if our lives there are positives. For us we are loving not having an alarm and embracing the slower pace of the day. And while work schedules are totally thrown off and financial fears keep creeping into my head since currently this blog supports our entire family I am trying to focus on how nice it is that we are all together.
- Mental Health - Remember that our reaction and how we deal with this situation is teaching our kids how to deal with stressful situation in the future.
