Today, I'm sharing ideas for practicing self-care at home that only take 15-20 minutes, including how to make a self-care kit that you can share with your friends so they can prioritize self care too.
I am excited to partner with Head and Shoulders for this post.
As always opinions are 100% my own
Welcome to day ? of quarantine. Some days it feels like a bad movie and I just cannot believe this is our reality, while other days it feels like a gift to have everyone home. Being 9 months pregnant on modified bedrest during this crisis adds to the stress and joy of this new reality.
It is easy to get caught up with distance learning, cooking, cleaning and trying to be the entertainer for the family. However, it is more important than ever to make time for self-care, too. The good thing is, self-care can be as easy as taking 15-20 minutes for yourself. I have put together a list of self-care you can do at home today.
Self Care Ideas at Home for Woman
1. Create a Gratitude Journal
Even in times of crisis we have so much to be grateful for. Sometimes we just need to take the time to write it down. Creating a gratitude journal also allows you to reflect back on the days when it may be hardest to easily come up with what you are grateful for.
2. Try New Products
During this quarantine I have tried lots of new products. Some have been a success and have become part of my regular routine (and even Kurt's routine) including the NEW Head & Shoulders Supreme Collection. The Supreme Collection is developed to include a variety of products in multiple forms that provide long lasting hair and scalp nourishment. The scents are amazing and smell about like you are creating a spa sanctuary in your bathroom, which I'm pretty sure we could all benefit from right now. The products include Argan Oil, vitamin E, as well as zinc pyrithione to address itch, dryness and irritation. It truly has helped to elevate my routine, unlock the best version of my hair and scalp and bring a spa-like experience to my shower on a daily basis. They're even endorsed by the Skin Health Alliance.
You can find them online at Walmart.com.
3. Move your Body
Take a walk or a bike ride (safely). I have spent a lot of time on our balcony and I have loved seeing how many people are trying to stay active. There is something about getting exercise that makes you feel good. This is something you could do as a family or alone.
4. Take a Bath
This is one of my favorite self m-care tips. I have been taking a bath almost every day during this quarantine. I light a candle and turn off the lights. Sometimes I listen to a meditation while other times I enjoy the quiet.
5. Have a Dance Party
We enjoy having them as family dance parties. There is something about turning the music up loud and dancing around with our entire family that makes all of us so happy.
6. Self Care Kit Ideas
I love the trend of creating packages for friends and delivering them to their front door as a surprise gift. This week we delivered these self care kits to a bunch of local friends. We wanted to inspire all our friends to take some time for self care. Our packages included Head & Shoulders Supreme Collection, bath bombs, face masks and lip gloss. The new Head & Shoulders products were a big hit. Some of the feedback my friends shared included "I am dead serious it’s my new shampoo!!!", "these products are the bomb" and "the scent made me feel like I was on a much needed vacation."
7. De-clutter
Personally, I am not taking this time to organize my entire life, but de-cluttering even a small space can help you clear your mind.
8. Unplug from Electronics and Social Media
I have found that I have been even more connected to social media during the last couple of weeks. Spending too much time on electronics and social media can be information overload. Self-care can be as simple as disconnecting from that information overload.
10. Try Something New
One of the highs of this crisis for a number of my friends is learning that they can do things like cooking and cleaning.
10. Stretch
Stretching is a simple way to make your body feel good. You can stretch on your own or follow a video for a stretching routine.
11. Get Some Fresh Air (Safely)
We have been enjoying dinner outside on the balcony every night. The fresh air has been so refreshing. It is crazy how easy it is to stay inside all day.
12. Have a Zoom Meeting with Friends
I hosted my first Zoom meeting with friends over the weekend and it was so much fun. We are all missing our friends and Zoom is a fun way to get to see everyone and catch up. During our call we talked about the highs and lows of our quarantine time as well as what we are all doing for self-care.
13. Take a Nap or Sleep In
Sleeping in has been one of my highlights of being home. We don't set an alarm clock and now everyone including our puppy has adjusted to sleeping in, which has been glorious.
14. Do a Face Mask
B and I love doing face masks together. It is an easy way to care for your skin.
15. Check in on a Friend
Call, text or FaceTime a friend.
16. Use your Favorite Scents
I love coconut and vanilla scents. You can light a candle or use products like Head & Shoulders Supreme Collection. All the products I've tried so far - three in-shower pre-wash products, three shampoo and conditioner collections, one conditioning mask and three leave on treatment products – come in amazing scents.
The coconut smell instantly transports me back to the islands. And they have me dreaming of when we can travel again.
17. Meditate
You can meditate on your own or using a guided meditation. You can find guided meditations online for free.
18. Have Quiet Time
Turn off everything and enjoy quiet time with no distractions.
19. Read a Book
Too often I only read books while on vacation. Taking even 15 minutes to dive into a new book can transport you to a new place.
