This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for Paramount Pictures. I received information to facilitate my review of Fences Movie as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
My husband and I love to go to the movies. Pre-kids we used to go to the movie theater every weekend. Sometimes twice a week. Fast forward to our life now with our daughter. While watching the Academy Awards I realized how out of the movie loop we truly are. We had not seen a single movie that was up for best picture or best actor or actress. So when the opportunity came to receive an advanced copy of Fences on blu-ray I jumped at the chance. We made Tuesday a movie night after putting our daughter to bed.
I think the NY Times review captured the movie best when they said “What is most remarkable about this film is how thoroughly — how painfully, how honestly, how beautifully — it answers the question “What about my life?”
Fences are built to keep people out as well as keep people in. Academy Award® winners Denzel Washington and Viola Davis deliver the “performance-driven masterpiece” of the year. The film is an adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. It is set in Pittsburgh in the 1950s. Denzel’s character, Troy is a former Negro-league baseball player. The film follows his life as he struggles to support his family. Washington is also the director. Fences “connects with people on a deep, emotional level.” It explores universal truths of love and forgiveness, despite what lies beyond your own fence.
